Delivered Handling Systems for Norway's New Coast Guard Vessels
The ships play a crucial role in addressing tasks within Norwegian territorial waters, including Arctic regions with challenging conditions. They are designed to mee thigh demands for vessel strength, stability, and communication and control capabilities. Importantly, they can collaborate with both civilian units and military departments.
This acquisition of coast guard vessels stands as one of the most significant defense procurements in Norway’s maritime sector.
SEAONICS Delivery
SEAONICS was tasked to deliver essential equipment for these three coastguard vessels. The contract, signed with VARD in July 2019, includes identical equipment for each vessel:
- Telescopic Boom Crane with pedestal, 4T@24m / 15T@10m, EX zone 2
- Towing winch 70T SWL, EX zone
- Towing pins
- Anchor Winches (2 off)
- Mooring winches (4 off)
- HPU’s (2 off)
- Electrical cabinets and control system
The towing winch is critical for supporting vessels during emergency and rescue operations. Meanwhile, the telescopic boom crane facilitates lifting and handling of equipment both onboard and from quaysides. The mooring winches ensure safe docking for vessels of this size.
“The projects have been technically challenging due to the development and testing of prototypes (crane and towing winch). Additionally, the impact of COVID-19 in February 2020 presented further challenges.
However, thanks to the excellent cooperation between SEAONICS and VARD Langsten personnel, as well as our ability to collaborate and overcome obstacles, we have successfully achieved to deliver high quality equipment, fit for purpose,” says Vice President Project, Pål Hellevik.
Saturday 09.03.24 the final Sea Trail for the Coastguard vessel NB912, was conducted and approved. The Sea Trail consisted of a towing test, for tuning and approval oft he towing winch.
“It has been three exciting projects, spanning nearly five years. In which we’ve gained valuable experience that we carry forward into our new projects,” finishes Pål Hellevik.
