Seaonics has signed a contract to deliver a complete trawl winch package and marine cranes to the Greenlandic shipowner Niisa Trawl. The vessel is designed by Skipsteknisk in Ålesund and will be built by Metal Ships & Docks in Spain.
Head of Sales in Seaonics, Jan Kjaerstad says: "Her sister ship Svend C has just finished sea trials and we are very pleased and grateful that the company again has chosen us as a supplier of winches and cranes.
"All the winches to the new vessel is electrically powered. Trawl winches will be the first in a new series of fishing winches with PM (Permanent Magnet) motors and will be among the most dynamic trawl winches in the market. Good dynamics of the trawl winches are important in reducing the risk of damage to other equipment during operation. Greenland is known for its harsh conditions on the seabed and the risk of jamming, and this increase the requirements for dynamic trawl winches.
"One of the reasons Seaonics was chosen as a supplier is that our winches have just these important properties. We have in this project worked closely with Niisa Trawl and Skipsteknisk to ensure that the equipment is adapted to the demanding working conditions "says Kjærstad.
"Seaonics has gained good experience with electrically powered winches in the past five years. There is a clear trend to want environmentally friendly and reliable solutions, and Seaonics have acquired very good experience using this type of motors - which now have been implented into our fishery winches, "says Managing director Stig Espeseth.
